System Requirements

OS X Helix prodcuts run on PowerPC Macs with Mac OS X 10.4 or later and on Intel Macs with Mac OS X 10.5 or later. (Mac OS X upgrades are available for purchase through our web store.)

OS X Helix products are available as Universal binaries, running natively on older and newer Macs running OS X. Althought Helix 6.1 is a paid upgrade, we also provide non-Universal products (labeled "for PowerPC") that use Helix 6.0 enablement keys, fulfilling our promise to provide a free OS X update to customers who purchased Helix 6.0 prior to Apple's switch to Intel processors.

Helix Server 6.1.6 supports Clients running natively on three distinct Mac OS platforms: Intel, PowerPC, & Classic.

Helix RADE Classic

Helix RADE 6.1.6 is still a Classic application. Now that the OS X transition work for Helix Server, Client, and Engine is complete, our full attention is turned toward delivering an OS X native RADE as soon as possible.

The Helix RADE 6.1.6 upgrade contains new features, enhancements and bug fixes that make working on collections a more productive experience.

Interface Changes

Many changes are forced upon Helix by the changes that are found in Mac OS X. The interface now looks like a typical OS X program. We have worked hard to make the transition smooth, but some changes may be required for your collections to look as good as they should. Be sure to keep a Classic-capable machine with Helix RADE installed on hand so you can tweak your views as needed.

About OS X Helix 6.1
Introduction

Helix 6.1 represents the second stage of our work in updating our code for OS X. Helix Server, Helix Utility and Update Collection were released as OS X native products in Helix 6.0. Helix 6.1 brings Helix Engine and Helix Client to OS X native status. Helix RADE remains Classic for the time being. All products except Helix Server are also available in a compatible Classic version.

How to Upgrade

Owners of Helix 6.0 licenses are entitled to free updates to Helix Server for PowerPC, Helix Client for PowerPC, and Helix Engine for PowerPC. Those who wish to run Intel Helix must purchase an upgrade. Those running on Intel Macs who do not want to purchase an upgrade can run the PowerPC Helix products using Apple’s Rosetta emulation software.

Helix RADE 6.0.x owners are entitled to a free update to Helix Engine for PowerPC 6.1.5.

Helix products for PowerPC use existing Helix 6.0.x enablement keys. To update, simply download the program you need and apply your existing enablement keys to them. If you have lost or misplaced your enablement keys, log in to your account and click the Current Keys link. If you have any questions about this upgrade policy, please contact us.
